You can see Charlotte, Catriona and Danielle weighing out potatoes - Golden Wonder, Blue Belle, Peach Bloom and Smile. We must remember to keep some for ourselves to taste!
DIGGers meet on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes - we aim to grow our own fruit and veg and have fun eating it! We also raise money for charity each year through a growing competition and give our primary schools a competition to try and win the "Lewis MacKenzie Trophy" (see bottom of page for a list of winners and fundraisers).

Produce going down well!
This week we dug up lots more potatoes. The staff who bought last weeks organic boxes have commented on how tasty our produce is! Mr Simpson even asked for more carrots (and parsnips) if we had any as they "tasted like carrots used to!" He is even thinking of buying some raised beds for himself to grow some veg. at home which is great!

It looks as though your good weather is holding up nicely ... temps just right for working out of doors (not too cool, not too hot), and intermittent showers and sprinkles (I'm not too clear on the difference; you folk have slightly different applications of the terminology from ours ... what's the old expression? ... "two countries separated by a common language"!). And yes, I've been watching; my weather page gives me the reports from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and Inverness and Invermoriston, Scotland. And your crops seem to be doing very well, indeed ... I envy you your bit of land that you can grow things in; I'm stuck with only an indoor shelf under my big window ... I grow a few flowers, but mostly greenery. I do miss my big yard, but I must admit that it was too shady for much in the way of plant life. I used to tell the grass-seed salesman that my yard wasn't shady, it was dark.
ReplyDeleteCheers, all!
