DIGGers meet on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes - we aim to grow our own fruit and veg and have fun eating it! We also raise money for charity each year through a growing competition and give our primary schools a competition to try and win the "Lewis MacKenzie Trophy" (see bottom of page for a list of winners and fundraisers).

Bulb Planting Event
Winter may be just starting, but we are already thinking about spring! Starting from Tuesday 21st October and lasting all week, DiGGers and ID classes (that's Interdisciplinary Gardening!) will be planting spring bulbs. We want to get them all along the edge of our native hedge round perimeter of the new fruit garden, as well as round the main garden.

What a wonderful garden you've created, Diggers!
ReplyDeleteI met Miss Swallow at the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh where I'm doing a course in Practical Horticulture. She told me about what you've been doing at your school................it's very impressive!
Until I retired in June, I was Headteacher of a small nursery school. Like you, we had support from members of the community who kindly watered our hanging baskets over the long summer holiday so I know how much you will appreciate their help.
The children at the nursery were only 3, 4 and 5 years old and the outdoor space was just being developed - it was nothing like the area you've made. However they really enjoyed eating the potatoes, carrots and strawberries that they helped to grow. If you know younger children you can tell them about, or show them, what you're doing and you might inspire them to grow things too.
I look forward to hearing more about your Royal visit from Miss Swallow next time I meet her.
Best wishes and Happy Gardening to you all!
