Happy Birthday Lewis + Fluffy little guests in the garden

On Thursday this week, Lewis turned 16!  A great excuse for a cake and a party!!  Happy Birthday Lewis!  We had to practise our presentation for Monday however, so Grigor, Danielle and Mr MacFarlane timed us as we read it through - Education Scotland are launching some resources to do with food across the curriculum and chose to hold the event at the Academy as they had heard about all the things we've been doing in the garden!
We lit a big candle for Lewis to blow out after we sang Happy Birthday.
"Who's for a piece?"
Meanwhile, our competition potatoes are coming on reasonably well.  The fundraising too has had a boost this week - we had a £10 donation towards the Highland Hospice from an anonymous donor.  They donated via our justgiving.com/diggers page - "thank you very much!"
Next Monday after all the "speeches" at the event, we are having an official "opening ceremony" so have been tidying the OJ Greenhouse and putting up the winning posters (several lower school classes created posters and 2T1 voted for their favourites)
By coincidence, Grigor created the bottom left one - well done Grigor!
On Thursday, Miss Swallow managed to find a little time to weed the Betty MacKenzie greenhouse too as it was full of tall thistles!
Now, it is back to a tidy state!
Can you spot anything small and fluffy in this picture??
The parent birds were calling for them (there are two)...

Chicks freshly hatched from their eggs were hiding amongst the raised beds!

Here, the parent is nestling them underneath it for warmth and protection.

Danielle looking a bit chilly, testing out a new log seat.
Lewis spotting the oyster catchers whilst tidying the greenhouse.

Meanwhile, Mr MacFarlane planted out some runner beans and brassicas that have been given to us...
...and the foxgloves are looking tremendous!
The leeks have started to seed.  We shall crop some soon to make soup for the Garden Party.
