On Wednesday this week, the weather was lovely. We spent a good while watering as everything was quite dry. Above, Connorhan is watering the wild flower seed sown on last week.
The potatoes are coming on well in the raised beds.
Mr MacFarlane watered the "Highland Burgundy Red" Potatoes (they will be red all the way through when we dig them up!)
We also covered the wild flower seed with a thin layer of compost to help keep the moisture in.
One of the Elective classes has been planting peas out too.
On Thursday, Grigor and Connorhan used more compost to "earth up" the potatoes
They piled the compost up round the potato plants. This stops the light getting onto any tubers near the surface which would otherwise make them go green (and poisonous to eat). It also encourages the plants to produce more tubers as they grow taller.
Meanwhile our peas are coming on really well in the Betty MacKenzie greenhouse. We gave them a good watering on Friday to help them get through the long Jubilee weekend. Hopefully they will be planted out next week.
The geraniums are doing well too
Miss Swallow's elective class planted some geraniums (and nasturtium seeds) into hanging baskets for the shed
Don't forget to visit www.dagardenparty.blogspot.com to see how our sunflowers are getting on too! There are also photos of the garden at Dingwall Primary (and their sunflowers are much taller than ours just now!)
